Our story

We at The Skin Counter are authorized dealers and distributors of carefully selected brands.

The Skin Counter is a Dutch, beauty store, created by Lilian Brussen, who first came into contact with Korean skin care and hair care thanks to roommates in her youth who came from Seoul. They took her into the world of Korean beauty products.
She herself suffered from sensitive Rosacea skin with many allergies like parabens, added perfumes and sulfates.

Since using the Asian products, her skin finally calmed down and started to improve more and more, so that she no longer had to hide it under even more skin-deteriorating make-up.
From there grew the ambition to bring Korean skincare to the western market. Lilian wants more people to benefit from effective and gentle products at a good price and get the famous smooth, glowing skin they have in Korea and experienced themselves.

At The Skin Counter, we are in constant contact with the manufacturers in Korea to test new products and receive information about both new trends and innovations in Korean skin care to always be up-to-date and ahead of the curve.

Why Korean and Japanese skin care?
Korea is the new skincare superpower in many ways and is years ahead of the rest of the world in skincare innovation. Koreans are the most demanding beauty consumers in the world and Korean beauty brands are known for using gentle and natural ingredients. This together with new technology ensures effective products that are very friendly to the skin at the same time.

Examples of skincare innovations from Korea and Japan are BB cream, BB cushion, CC cream, sheet masks, pimple patches, face and eye masks, essences and ampoules.

What is the difference between Korean and Western skincare?
Unlike Western skincare, which primarily focuses on fighting aging, K-beauty is about having a dialogue with your skin and listening to its needs with a holistic approach. The priority of K-beauty is to maintain a healthy skin barrier, while Western beauty focuses on problem-solving.

With K-beauty, it's all about applying thin layers of active ingredients to achieve a hydrated, radiant skin while also preventing damage from environmental factors, pollution, and harmful UV rays. K-beauty focuses on soothing and nourishing the skin and ensuring that it is well-hydrated, radiant, and protected. In contrast to Western beauty, which focuses on exfoliating to reveal a new layer of skin, K-beauty is about replenishing nutrients into the skin.

K-beauty takes a gentler approach with less emphasis on scrubs, retinols, and aggressive acids. Each product in a Korean beauty routine has a specific purpose and is designed to be applied to the skin gently by tapping, patting, or massaging.

We at The Skin Counter look forward to sharing our Korean and Japanese beauty experiences with you and making this mystical beauty routine accessible and easy to understand. We therefore select only the best Korean and Japanese products available on the market, tell you about the latest skin care trends and also write about the well-known Korean skin care steps for different skin types.
