Why Rich Creams Cause Breakouts

One of my favorite things about our curated collection of moisturizers is how light they are. They're all so beautifully fresh and have a light formulation that glides onto skin, delivering a filtered, glowy finish, all without clogging your pores. But that doesn’t mean that they're not powerful. They are powered by Hanbang (traditional Korean herbal medicine) and active ingredients and a ton of natural nutrients to ensure that these products really deliver results. One of the reasons why I wanted to start with lighter moisturizers is because I wanted to curate a collection that would instantly breathe life into any type of skin, even the most sensitive or acne-prone skin types. I wanted something for everyone and products that would never make anyone’s acne or breakouts worse.

A lot of creams that are heavy and high in oil can lead to clogged pores which can then lead to the development of whiteheads and blackheads. The reason for this is because when we apply anything to the skin, the pores take what they need and absorb it into the dermal layer but anything that they don’t want to absorb (excess moisture or oil) sits on the surface of the skin rather than being absorbed. This is why some creams will leave you feeling really greasy and horrible. This greasy layer can then attract more dirt and bacteria which leads to more congestion of pores, increased oil production and this can drive the acne cycle further.

Finding the right moisturizer is a balance. It’s difficult because you need to keep your skin well-moisturized but you need to do so without provoking breakouts and without over moisturizing. Over moisturizing can not only lead to bumps and pimples all over the face but it can also lead to dry skin because the balance of the skin gets totally thrown off. If you’ve also been moisturizing for a long, long time the skin can get lazy meaning that it isn’t capable of maintaining its own hydration levels. It starts to expect a product is going to be applied which means that our skin then becomes sluggish and doesn’t continue to hydrate in the way that it knows how. We then grab for more moisturizer to solve the dry skin battle. This is one reason why my collection is simple, powerful products. Sometimes too many ingredients are just unnecessary in the journey to beautiful, glowing, radiant skin.

So, for people who get spots, acne or breakouts, you need to be more intentional about your moisturizer choice and how much moisturizing is too much moisturizing. This is why we choose our collection of moisturizers:

  • They're not full of oil and it are not a rich, heavy cream - you can use them every day, unlike richer and heavier creams
  • They gives a beautiful glow filter finish of ultimate hydration while also helping with the appearance of skin texture - all without there being a crazily high oil content in it;
  • They moisturize without over- moisturizing - so you don’t have to worry about your skin getting lazy or there being daily debris build ups that will promote breakouts;
  • They are light enough to be used by all skin types, including acne-prone or acne-suffering skin. It doesn’t provoke the acne cycle or drive breakouts

The moisturizers are for everyone. I absolutely love them and you will too. They're perfect as the final step in your skincare routine or as a base to prime your skin for soft, dewy and light makeup application.
